Ahmed cited the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Mr Muhammad Nami as saying “chargeable exchanges under the Stamp Duties Act as altered in the Finance Act 2019 are in two classifications – Fixed Duty Instruments and Ad-Valorem Instruments.

“Coming up next are the chargeable exchanges in the Fixed Duty Instruments classification, Power of Attorney (PoA); Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), Proxy structure; Appointment of Receiver, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Joint Venture Agreements (JVA), Guarantor’s structure, and Ordinary Agreements Receipts.

“While advertisement Valorem Instruments chargeable under the Stamp Duties Act are Deed of Assignment, Sales Agreement, Legal Mortgage or Debentures, Tenancy or Lease Agreement, Insurance Policies, Contract Agreements, Vending Agreement, Promissory Notes, Charter-Party and Contract Notes.

“Stamp obligation is fundamentally charged in two structures, either advertisement valorem where obligation payable is a level of the thought on an instrument or a fixed entirety regardless of the thought on dutiable instrument or record.”

As indicated by him, the FIRS in this manner, urges individuals from the general population to ensure that any of the above-recorded Instruments they give or get over the span of their business or authority exchanges have the new FIRS Adhesive Stamp Duty attached or stepped on them.
